The Cat Lounge

Rescue and Adoption Center

Summary

The Li-Costa Foundation really loves cats. We support The Cat Lounge Rescue and Adoption Center (TCL), San Diego's first and only non-profit cat lounge. They're responsible for all the happy stories about special fur-babies below!

Forklift

Forklift was a rescue and had an urgent need for a full dental extraction. Despite losing all his teeth, Forklift’s playful personality has returned now that he’s no longer in pain. TCL saw to his surgery and post-treatment care, ensuring his ongoing comfort and well-being.

Sponge Cake & Carrot Cate

Sponge Cake and Carrot Cake were two kittens born in our care. Unfortunately, they were both diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis, a previously fatal disease. However, TCL was able to purchase and administer the necessary medication to save their lives. Carrot Cake completed treatment, was cleared, and found a forever home. Sponge Cake just finished the 86-day treatment and is getting bloodwork to ensure she is in the clear!

Spider

Spider required emergency surgery to repair a life-threatening diaphragmatic hernia. This condition caused internal organs to shift into his chest cavity, making it difficult for him to breathe. Spider received surgery and excellent post-operative care, giving him a second chance at life. He is now recovering beautifully and gaining strength every day.

Fleabag

Flea Bag was found in a bush, extremely ill with crusted-shut eyes and severe swelling that left him unable to see. He was also completely covered in fleas, requiring hours of care. Initially, there were fears he might lose an eye, but thanks to medical treatment, he made a full recovery without surgery. Once shy due to illness, he has transformed into a playful, loving, and vocal kitten, full of energy and personality.

Sashimi

Sashimi came to us with a range of health issues. His dental health was particularly concerning—he required a comprehensive dental procedure, including multiple extractions and medications to treat his severely inflamed gums. After his initial treatment, we discovered he also had several types of parasites that needed prompt and thorough treatment. Sashimi has fully recovered and is now thriving!

Uramaki

Uramaki was rescued after being abandoned in a warehouse and quickly won our hearts with his sweet nature. Adopted in September, he was sadly returned in October due to his adopter’s family emergency. During that time, he was diagnosed with stomatitis and underwent a botched dental surgery, leaving him in constant pain. Back at the rescue, it was clear he needed a full-mouth extraction. Before surgery, he could barely eat, avoided touch, and yowled in pain. But after his procedure in November, he became a whole new cat—purring, making bisquiets, and finally free from suffering.
